You can see here that there are two walls surrounding the compound of the hotel. Actually it is a big concrete ditch to protect the place in the old times. This was a military site before it is being turned into a hotel in the modern days.

The place is practically surrounded by tens of this stuff. Behind is Musee de I'Armee or military museum. In Europe there are hundreds of museums. An informative culture of the west.
